It's not hard to see why Goldilocks scooped Time Out's People's Choice Award in 2015. Firstly, Melbourne loves a hidden entrance, and Goldilocks’ clandestine position, four floors above a Chinese diner, fits the bill nicely. Next, we're suckers for a rooftop, and she ticks that box too, with a terrace amid the skyscrapers. And we want a relaxed night out, without pretension, available here thanks to attentive staff who keep the drinks and conversation flowing.
There are boutique brews from Feral and 4 Pines, a short list of wines listed by varietal and region only, and a handful of easy-drinking, sweet-leaning cocktails. Try the floral Barry's Batida of cachaca and crème de violette, or the Spiked Apple Marie of Don Julio Blanco, pomme verte and rosemary, balanced with a stain of Campari. Cheap, cheerful snacks span cheese and truffle toasties and booze-sponging potato wedges. Yes, everything at Goldilocks is juuuust right.
