Melbourne General Cemetery was first opened in 1852, making it one of the oldest in the city. Being over 150 years old means the cemetery is also home to many notable names from history including four prime ministers (Fraser, Menzies, Scullin and Gorton as well as a memorial to Harold Holt), writer Marcus Clarke, ill-fated explorers Burke and Wills and actor (and rumoured resident ghost at Princess Theatre) Frederick Federici. The cemetery is open daily everyday of the year from 8am.
