Castlemaine-based photographer Darron Davies has a thing for Victoria's central goldfields. The abandoned ones specifically. In his new exhibition, Responding Lines, Davies has used his camera to capture the stillness that pervades the state's once bustling, but now mostly abandoned, goldfields.
To connect these old goldfields to the present day Davies has also enlisted the help of local children in Dunolly to respond to the haunting photographs with poetry or prose. These responses will then go on display as part of the Bendigo's Writers Festival. Visitors on the festival weekend will also be able to enjoy an old-fashioned afternoon tea after viewing the exhibition.
Responding Lines is on at the Dunolly Court House from August 3-12, and entry is free.
