It's great news when, in the face of high street big name chains, an independent store survives, providing a real alternative for shoppers.

Of course we think of supermarkets and the way they have swallowed up local grocers, butchers and the like, but the same can be said for pet shops too.

Pets Own in Prestwich is an example of an old school pet shop sticking to what it does best - catering for local pet owners with great quality foods and provisions sourced locally where possible. And the range is astounding for what is basically a tiny shop. 

Owner Christian offers a warm welcome to people and pets alike, often referring to pets by name, and is happy to treat your animal to a taste of something delicious, (although when you find out it's a piece of a bull's private parts, you may not wonder why he's giving it away).
