Considered something of a monstrosity for decades thanks to its unpleasant '70s design, a major refurb and modern extension have made Manchester Arndale Centre a very pleasant shopping experience. Its clean colours, wide expanses and light feel make it an unfussy experience, whilst still being a mall with everything you'd expect.
All of the main high street chains are here, including a huge Next, an Aldi supermarket, the ubiquitous Apple and a large food hall, but there's also a really good market area for fresh fruit and veg, with the delis particularly worth visiting. The market also has the best fishmongers in the city centre, with more species than on show at the Sea Life centre.
