The Sponge Sisters started at Urmston Market, selling homemade traditional cakes on a Saturday and soon gained a following, selling out every week. Spurred on by that success they opened The Hideaway, and it's rather tremendous.
There's a strong ethos going on here with an emphasis on locally sourced, excellent quality food and drink. The veg comes from Urmston Market, the meat is from the local butcher, the beer is brewed by a local couple. Wonderful stuff!
Their coffee is supplied by a local artisan coffee roaster in Manchester, MANCOCO, and their loose leaf teas by Nothing But Tea. Breakfasts are fantastic and have excellent vegetarian and vegan versions - in fact there's an extensive choice for veggies and vegans throughout the menu. Cakes are made freshly on site and the daily changing blackboard of tasty treats gets your mouth watering from the off.
And as if the superb food and warm welcome weren't enough, the Sponge Sisters host quiz nights, board game nights, breakfast clubs for business people and there's a new Saturday night get together for LGBT customers too.
It's a great place, far too good to hide away, where the strength of vision is matched, for once, by the quality of the cooking.
