Set in the beautiful Barton Arcade on Deansgate, Pot Kettle Black is a venture from St Helens rugby players Jon Wilkin and Mark Flanagan, who together were inspired by an aim to provide speciality coffee outside of the Northern Quarter’s monopoly of the scene, whilst also cutting through the major chains Deansgate is known for.
In this sense the joint more than competently fulfils the brief. It’s got the charm and laid back appeal of an independent café and, most importantly, the knowledge needed to succeed amidst the local giants of the craft coffee boom. Using London’s Workshop Coffee (primarily the sought after Cult of Done), luckily the theatre of the silver trays, signature red mugs and the Barton Arcade setting is matched by the quality of what lies within.
The free WiFi and bounty of plug sockets make this joint a great spot for freelancers and students, who if they become hungry can feast on sandwiches and salads, artisan bread, plus cakes, pastries and biscuits.
Look out for regular events including acoustic nights and rooftop yoga and boot camp sessions.
