Promising, first and foremost, 'Proper Italian coffee on Salford's Chapel Street', there's a danger that Lupo Caffe Italiano isn't bigging itself up enough, with fresh, homemade meals like lasagne, meatballs and cannelloni, impressive cakes and desserts (including a great tiramisu) and a bright and inviting space all hiding behind a fairly unassuming exterior.
But that's the charm here - right from the single yellow bench sitting out front to the amiable owner Nico and chef Ornella smiling behind the counter, it serves as a lesson in how things should be done when you want customers to return. Tea's brewed by the pot. Coffee is hand-roasted in Italy using 100% Arabica beans. The menu changes daily. In short? It might just be the the most pleasant lunch break you ever take.
