Originally, this magnificent square was created to house a memorial to Prince Albert. The Town Hall it serves came a little later, but the statue of Albert remains the focal point of the square itself.
Throughout the year, Albert Square becomes home to all manner of events, including the Christmas Markets, and becomes the hub for most of the city's main festivals, including MIF.
When there isn't something going on, it's a lovely spot to eat your lunch in, particularly as Chinese New Year approaches and the trees provide support to hundreds of beautiful suspended lanters.
