Recently, in an attempt to boost tourism, Birmingham Airport started to consider renaming itself Shakespeare's Airport for the American and Chinese markets. It follows the example of the likes of Liverpool's John Lennon Airport, and prompted travel company Holiday Extras to ask 1,000 Manchester locals who they thought the city's airport should be named after.

The former United Manager scored a massive hit, beating rivals like Peter Kay (second place with 12 percent) and music legends The Stone Roses (3rd on 11 percent) with over 30 percent of people taking part putting Ferguson centre forward.
Fergie held particular appeal for the over 45’s age group, with 36 percent voting in his favour. He is still popular with the younger generation but the percentage fell to 26 percent for those aged 25-44 and to 24 percent for the 18-24 group.
