Musician, actor and writer Carrie Brownstein is to discuss her life and career in a special event in Manchester next month. The Sleater-Kinney guitarist and vocalist is to visit the city as she celebrates the release of her memoir ‘Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl’.
Telling the story of growing up in the Pacific Northwest of the US and the formation of Sleater-Kinney, Carrie’s book covers her passion for music and her reflections on punk, riot grrl, grunge and feminism.
‘Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl’, described by publisher Riverside Books as ‘accessibly raw, honest and heartfelt’, also covers areas such as her turbulent upbringing, identity, sexuality and relationships.
Carrie will be discussing everything from her life in the music industry to her role in TV show ‘Portlandia’ and everything in between.
The event, hosted by Manchester Literature Festival and Virago, will take place at The Dancehouse and is part of her UK-wide book tour.
Carrie Brownstein, Thursday November 12, 7.30pm, The Dancehouse. Tickets £10/£8 concessions.
