Beer extravaganza Indy Man Beer Con returns to Victoria Baths again this month, with more than 50 breweries from all over the world showcasing their wares to thirsty punters. With so many exciting brewers involved in IMBC 2015, here’s a look at just six to keep an eye out for.
Mikkeller
The Danish gypsy brewers return to IMBC for 2015 so expect weird and wonderful concoctions. When they’re not busy taking over the world, (they’ve recently opened bars in Reykjavik, Seoul and Barcelona), you’ll find them making innovative and exciting beers which are always worth sampling.
Pohjala
How often do you get the chance to try Estonian beer in Manchester? Based in Talinn, this microbrewery was founded in 2011 and has worked on collaborations with Norwegians Lervig (who are also appearing at IMBC) and Danes To Øl.
Yeastie Boys
From all the way over in New Zealand, Yeastie Boys not only have a great name, but also a fantastic range of beers. Their flagship brew Pot Kettle Black – described as a South Pacific porter - has won numerous awards since it was first brewed back in 2008.
Five-Oh Brew Co
It’s not just international breweries on offer at Indy Man Beer Con – plenty of local brewers are in on the action too. Prestwich-based Five-Oh Brew Co are one of the smallest involved and as they only brew in small batches, it’s always worth hunting out their beers.
Mad Hatter
From down the other side of the M62, Mad Hatter make, in their own words, ‘boss beers from Liverpool’. These include more classic brews such as their Toxteth IPA and Penny Lane Pale, to unique flavor combinations like their Raspberry and Basil Wit and recent Tzatziki Sour.
Vocation
They may only have been brewing for a few months, but this Hebden Bridge-based brewery was established by an award-winning brewer - John Hickling formerly of Blue Monkey Brewery - so they do know their stuff. Although many of their brews can be quite traditional compared to some of the other breweries appearing at IMBC, their beers have plenty of flavour.
