Franco Sotgiu is not only a savvy business man, if his busy place SoLita is anything to go by, he's also a caring one.

A few months ago, faced with ever increasing numbers of homeless people asking for food at the end of the day, the restaurant staff and owner decided that handing out the odd meal wasn't addressing the issue on a truly helpful scale. Out of this, Not Just Soup was cooked up.

For the last three months, Piccadilly Gardens has been the site of this initiative to feed homeless people with food provided by Manchester's restaurants. And it seems that many of them are willing to help, turning excess food into something truly worth while.

Since the scheme started, many other Manchester restaurants have come on board and Not Just Soup is now working with a charity for homeless people called Coffe4Craig, ensuring that quality food is getting to the people who need it the most via a team of volunteers.

SoLita have been joined by a plenty of different types of eateries, large and small, including big players like Manchester House and Hawksmoor.
