Manchester symphony orchestra The Hallé is to host a concert with a difference - with guests invited to watch the event and then pay what they think it was worth afterwards.
The orchestra will perform ten short pieces spanning 300 years of music on one special evening at the Bridgewater Hall in September at an event named ‘Priceless Classics’.
Each piece will be introduced on the Hallé Big Screen and free programmes will be available offernig the background to the music. Works from Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Wagner are among the selections which will be performed on the night.
Audience members are more than welcome to come and go as they please, and bring their drinks into the concert hall.
Concertgoers then decide what to pay afterwards – whether that’s at the box office as they’re leaving or even online when they get back home - although tickets do need to be reserved in advance.
The Hallé says they aim of the event is to reach out to people who are curious about classical music and may never have heard a symphony orchestra before.
John Summers, the Hallé’s chief executive, says: ’Our concert will allow new audiences to experience the Hallé and enjoy some incredible music, but on their own terms. If people have not heard the Hallé’s music before this is the perfect event for them.’
The Hallé ‘Priceless Classics’, September 6 6pm, Bridgewater Hall.
