Who doesn't love a bargain?
We all do, but demand is so high that a new Sue Ryder charity shop in Greater is bringing in security volunteers to deal with the crowds expected ahead of its ‘Green Friday’ opening tomorrow at 10am.
The shop, 1,500 square feet in size and located at Ashton under Lyne, is opening with a new concept: customers can buy a bag for £5 and fill it with as much stock as they can.
Ladies, men’s and children’s clothing will all be on sale along with books, toys and household linen. The staff are calling it ‘Green Friday’ in reference to the notorious crowds attracted to the Black Friday sales in November each year. It is ‘Green’ instead of Black in reference to the fact that charity shop stock is recycled instead of being thrown away.
The staff expect that the new concept will attract families shopping on a budget, bargain hunters and up-cyclists who can create new fashions from the bargain stock.
What can you get for a fiver?
With £5 you could buy:
- 10 skirts
- 25 medium sized novels
- whole new set of bedclothes
It's not all about bargains. Environmentally friendly Green shopping means that Charity shops remove 340,000 tonnes of textile waste from landfill each year, indirectly removing 7.4m tonnes of the UK’s annual carbon emissions whilst creating 17,000 jobs.
Filling your bargain bag never felt so good!
Green Friday at Sue Ryder, Fri 31 July from 10am, 74-76 Old Street, Ashton under Lyne.
