Manchester’s Roadhouse is to close its doors after being a staple of the city’s music scene for more than 20 years. During its time, the venue has hosted countless well-known bands and here’s a look at just a few of the acts who have graced the stage.
Muse
They now sell out arenas and also wrote the official song for the London 2012 Olympics, but Muse played at the Roadhouse back in 1999 just before they released their first album 'Showbiz'.
Blink 182
Also more likely to be seen at an arena these days (albeit without one of their founding members), the US pop punkers have also played at the tiny venue.
White Stripes
In the year which they released their breakthrough 'White Blood Cells' album, the Detroit duo graced the Roadhouse’s stage.
Coldplay
They played for 50,000 fans at Manchester City’s stadium in 2012 for their 'Mylo Xyloto' tour, but for their 'Parachutes' tour in 2000 they took to the much smaller stage at the Roadhouse.
Stereophonics
Back in 1997, the Welsh rockers released their first single 'Local Boy In The Photograph' and played at the Roadhouse a few months later.
Kasabian
Headlining V Festival this year, Kasabian played at the venue a few months before the release of their eponymous debut album in 2004.
You Me At Six
Another one of this year’s festival headliners (they’ll be at Slam Dunk in Leeds), You Me At Six must have enjoyed their show at the Roadhouse in 2009 – they posted a video of it on their official YouTube channel.
Elbow
It’s impossible to write about the Roadhouse without mentioning local boys Elbow. Most of the band’s members worked at the venue in the 1990s, and earlier this year returned to play an intimate gig for War Child.
The Roadhouse will host its final gig on May 31.
