Our new regular column features a look at the latest beer and pub news and events in the city. Cheers!

Following their recent refurb, Common in the NQ have announced a superb new feature - a permanent Mikkeller tap. Recently voted one of the best breweries in the world (and deservedly so), the Danish gypsy brewers are known for their innovative and experimental concoctions and although their brews can sometimes found in the likes of BrewDog and Port Street Beer House, this is the first time Manchester will have a dedicated tap. Fingers crossed that one day Manchester will join the likes of Reykjavik, Seoul and Copenhagen and we’ll get our very own Mikkeller Bar.

The team at Common's sister bar Port Street Beer House are no strangers to hosting beer-filled events and their next tap takeover will feature not just one but two breweries. Two Manchester newbies, Track and Squawk, will be taking over the taps to showcase both their cask and keg beers and give punters a chance to chat to the brewers while sampling their wares.

Who doesn’t love a piss up in a brewery? Seven Bro7hers, who are based just down the road from MediaCityUK, are celebrating their first birthday this month and throwing a little shindig to celebrate. They’ve been keeping busy in their first year slowly but surely taking over pumps across Salford and Manchester, and they’ll soon be opening the doors to their first pub in Ancoats. Luckily, as the name suggests, there’s enough of them to give them time to fit everything in.

As one brewery celebrates its birthday, another shuts its doors. Privateer Beers, known for ales such as Dark Revenge and Red Duke, has stopped brewing as owner Matt is relocating for a new job. So if anyone fancies making their own beer, there's a brewery up for sale - and it's definitely one for fans of irony as it's located on Temperance Street in Ardwick.
