Beef & Pudding is the first Manchester venture but fifth pub/restaurant from the New Moon Pub Company; owned by Paul Newman and former TV chef Dave Mooney ,who worked under Raymond Blanc and Marco Pierre White before appearing on various TV shows.
The menu is an intriguing mix of pub classics and more exotic dishes, many proudly made with local ingredients. Try the bread oven duck spring rolls and crispy tripe for starters, followed by poussin curry or their signature dish, ‘The Pudding’ – a stunning beef and venison suet pudding.
The two burgers on the menu are worth more than a mention. The 'B&P House Burger' and ‘Beef’ham Tower’ are both exceptional. The latter comprises a house-made patty, sweet chilli beef brisket, horseradish, suet pudding, mushy peas, onion rings and chilli sauce, in a brioche bun. A homage to iconic Manchester building the Beetham Tower, it’s so tall it needs a skewer just to keep it upright.
The dessert menu reads like a catalogue of classic British puddings. If you can't choose one, go for the five-strong 'Pudding Plank'; sticky toffee pudding, chocolate tart, cheese-glazed Eccles cake, bakewell pie and banoffee cheesecake with custard, whipped cream and chocolate sauce.
