The streets of the Spanish capital are enjoying an unusual bit of silence and emptiness. Strolling along Gran Vía is a memory we don’t ever want to forget, but for now, places typically characterised by hustle and crowds have become quiet and lonely. So we’ve discovered a way, though it might cause us a bit of melancholy, to help us feel like we’re still out there wandering past the Puerta del Sol or along Calle Alcalá.

What’s our plan, you ask? Having a peek at images from live cameras that film the entire city. It’s true that what you’ll see is something that’s far from our daily reality under normal circumstances. Don’t expect to see the usually thriving Gran Vía packed with pedestrians, cars and motorbikes. But you can look out over a virtual balcony, thanks to websites like Skyline and Enterrat. It’s a good way to get a sense of freedom and capture the current stillness of Madrid from your sofa.
