Hospital Maudes

Hospital, warehouse and now one of the councils of the Community of Madrid. This great architectural ensemble takes up almost an entire block in C/Maudes and still features the walled enclosure that protects it from the outside. The octagonal design of the central patio, from where four galleries extend, is one of the most original in the city. In addition to the administrative offices, the complex boasts a church and what were formerly the hospital's nursing units. Known at the beginning of the 20th century as the Hospital de Jornaleros de Maudes, the building would later be seized by the International Red Aid during the Spanish Civil War and later became a scrap warehouse before it was left abandoned until 1984 when it was purchased and renovated in part by the Community of Madrid.
