When the weather turns warmer, the popular penis-shaped waffles at La Pollería known as ‘pollofres’ (a combination of ‘polla’, a cruder word for male genitalia, and ‘gofres’, which are just waffles) make room for ‘pollolos’ (‘polos’ are ice lollies) in various flavours. In summer, especially during Pride week, you can imagine the streets of Chueca are filled with these racy treats. In a nod to gender equality among waffles and ice cream, creator Pedro Buerbaum has come up with another viral hit, the ‘coñofre’ (‘coño’ being slang for female genitalia). This vagina-shaped waffle, stuffed with the ice cream flavour of your choice and crowned with colourful toppings, sets out to dethrone the ruling phallic treat.
