Not nearly as historic as the neighbouring Gijón, although it may look it: when it opened in 1978, 'the Mirror' ('el Espejo') set out to be the art nouveau bar Madrid never had, with positively Parisian 1900s decor. Its terrace bar out on the Paseo de Recoletas occupies a splendid glass pavilion reminiscent of a giant Tiffany lamp. Fashionable and comfortable, it has excellent tapas at reasonable prices.
