Take a journey with Wynn – Garden of Earthly Delights, a brand-new art exhibition running from now to October 6 at Wynn Palace and Wynn Macau. This exhibition is held in support of Art Macao, an international arts and cultural event under the patronage of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region and supported by Instituto Cultural de Macau and Macao Government Tourism Office.
The art exhibition is inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s stunning masterpiece The Garden of Earthly Delights, which he painted during the time of the Renaissance. It showcases a selection of art pieces by modern and contemporary artists for their first appearance in Macau, including Edoardo Tresoldi who made the Forbes 30 Under 30 – The Arts 2017 list, and Herb Alpert, who was presented with the 2013 National Medal of Arts at the White House by former US President Obama.
Committed to fostering cultural development in Macau, Wynn brings an extraordinary collection of paintings, installations and digital art pieces to this four-month complimentary exhibition. Open to the public from 10am to 10pm daily.
Most will be familiar with American artist Robert Indiana’s pop art sculpture series produced over the last decade: LOVE. Love is an earthly delight and can range from familial pleasure to carnal pleasure. Indiana’s The American Love, standing boldly in red, white and blue, is one of the most iconic pieces of our time.
Beijing-born Yansong Ma is the founder and principal of MAD Architects. Ma currently has on-going projects in Rome, Paris, Japan, Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. Dragon’s Footprint playfully creates the spirit of the giant mythical dragon whose only remnants are, as the name suggests, its oversized footprints.
A respected abstract expressionist painter and sculptor, Herb Alpert was the recipient of the 2013 National Medal of Arts, presented to him by former US President Obama at the White House. Alpert’s Spirit Totems sculpture series includes the added aural component of his Grammy-award winning Puttin’ on the Ritz for a multisensory experience.
Media artist, director and spatial thinker, Refik Anadol explores how the perception and experience of time and space are changing now that the digital age, ‘the machine’, has consumed our everyday life. As American philosopher John Dewey said: “Science states meanings; art expresses them.” Melting Memories provides audiences with contemplative works in response to Dewey’s thesis and utilises the advanced technological tools provided by the Neuroscape Laboratory of the University of California.
Milan-native Edoardo Tresoldi is known internationally for his monumental sculptures made of wire mesh and industrial materials, mixing the classical with the modern and landscape elements with the abstract. In 2017, he was included by Forbes among the 30 most influential European artists under 30. In Sacral, transparency weaves the absent matter into space. Tresoldi uses his signature wire mesh to project a contemporary perception of classical archetypes such as arch, column and dome. Sacral is a tribute to not only the architectures that no longer exist, but to the spaces that are capable of adapting to transformations.
