Writing workshops at Writing Pad focus on spontaneity, playfulness, and safety, fostering an environment where writers can feel comfortable experimenting as they create their best work. No matter what writing project you’re working on, there’s a class to help take you back to school and take your work over the finish line. If you’re looking to turn your life story into a memorable piece of writing, check out the Memorable Memoir Workshop. In this class, participants will take their personal stories and mine them for beautiful, authentic details.
If fiction is more your style, the Intro to Novel Writing Workshop may be a better fit. This five-week class focuses on techniques that are specific to long-form fiction, like mastering an enticing story arc, creating believable dialogue, and developing conflicts between characters that will leave your readers wanting more. There are also weekly opportunities to receive feedback on your novel. By the end of the class, everyone should have a complete chapter outline and (hopefully) some scenes already completed!
There are also several courses designed for those working on either an animated or a live action television pilot. In the TV Comedy 1: Pilot Writing Workshop, participants will learn from an experienced writer who’s worked on acclaimed shows like Superstore and Community. Over five weeks, students will explore their characters, build a believable setting, and create a beat sheet for their pilot episode. Students will also receive industry tips on how to pitch their projects once they’re complete.
Classes at Writing Pad have received very positive feedback from former students. While the feedback portion can feel intimidating to many, a lot of students shared that this process was respectful and extremely helpful. People also appreciated that there was a good mix of lecture and hands-on writing exercises. Several reviewers shared that they were eager to continue taking writing classes because of the helpful information they learned and how much their projects improved throughout the process.
