As soon as you walk into the Raven, your muscles begin to relax. A covered stone and tile patio leads you to the quiet, calm front desk area, which is also outside, surrounded by lanterns, wild greenery and colorful walls. As you check in, you may notice the adjoining Raven yoga studio; it's usually just as tranquil over there, except for a minor flurry of activity as classes begin and end. Once you check in, you'll be taken through a set of carved wood swinging doors to the changing area, where lockers and a soft robe await you. The main spa area has comfortable woven chairs for hand and foot treatments, as well as a row of massage areas separated by soft curtains. The entire room has a relaxed vibe with Thai-style decor and thick wood, and sun streams through skylights and open windows, giving the spa an outdoor feel. (We're not sure how this is possible, but somehow you can hear birds chirping outside, but not the traffic on nearby Rowena Ave.) There are also private treatment rooms, decorated similarly, for more privacy. Massages here are decadent, but be sure to tell your therapist if she's pressing too hard—Thai massage digs deep, and if you're not careful you could leave with a bruise or two. If you're shy about communicating with your masseuse, this may not be the spot for you. After your treatment, you can lounge on one of the woven chairs and enjoy fresh cut apples, oranges and dates along with hot tea and cool water. You'll leave feeling soft, relaxed and refreshed (and if you're a bit oily, there are showers here for an extra $5).
