While high speed rail, subway tunnels and vacuum tubes were all vying for the future of transportation in California, the city West Hollywood went and rolled out a duo of trolleys to try and reinvent barhopping in one of LA's busiest nightlife hubs. The Pickup, a six-month pilot program, sends two party buses up and down Santa Monica Boulevard with stops every two to three blocks between Fairfax and Robertson. Find one of the yellow signs for the service and expect the free late night ride to arrive within 15 minutes. Riders can grab discounts and perks at local bars, like VIP admission at the Abbey and Micky's. Don't count on a respite from the clubbing scene, though; the on-board, social media-savvy photo booth and thumping mix from local DJ Derek Monterio are sure to turn the trolley into a wonderfully riotous, slightly sloppy time.
