Artist Rashaad Newsome’s annual vogueing ball and competition heads online for the first time on July 10. Since 2013, Newsome, a 2019 recipient of LACMA’s Art + Technology Lab grant, has brought together figures from the art, fashion, music, literary, activism, entertainment and LGBTQ+ vogue communities for the King of Arms Art Ball. While the event has previously taken place on the East Coast, this year it takes on a global scope—streamed out via YouTube—with young queer performers all over the world reinterpreting works by prominent Black queer artists. Stick around for an after party on Instagram Live hosted by Newsome, with live sets by DJ April Hunt and MikeQ.
