We’re counting down the days until HBO premieres His Dark Materials, the TV series based on Philip Pullman’s epic fantasy trilogy about Lyra and her daemon Pantalaimon. So we’re excited that L.A. is one of three cities around the country with a public library showing a free, advance screenings of the first episode. On October 26, the Santa Monica Public Library will show the episode at 11am, 1pm and 3pm on a first-come, first-served basis. To keep you busy, you’ll also find photo ops, daemon-matching quizzes and themed scavenger hunts (complete it and you’ll nab a paperback copy of The Golden Compass). We spotted another preview screening at DTLA’s Alamo Drafthouse, but it looks like those tickets have already been snatched up.
