El Leon was once owned by the folks behind the Raven—evident from their matching decor and offerings—but was sold last year. The owners have done a good job of taking a Home Depot-style space (literally every door and fixture could be found at your local big box hardware store) and transforming it into a peaceful setting that feels far away from the traffic on La Brea. The vibe here is calm but a little cramped, as the spa is basically one big room. In order to get to the (very small) changing area, you may walk through multiple hand and foot treatments. If you don't mind a little hubbub, or sharing your relaxation space with others, El Leon is great. Their treatments are thorough and never rushed, and there's a delightful snack of orange, apple and dates waiting for you once you're finished. Do make note: if you like getting naked for your massages, this may not be the place for you. You'll be outfitted with soft drawstring pants and an oversized t-shirt to wear throughout your treatment.
