Boxing at the Los Angeles Athletic Club

LAAC's Rivals in the Ring proved the perfect combination of posh and parry

Call us old fashioned, but we like our whiskey neat, our meat rare and our boxing done by youngsters. So of all the excuses we have to throw on the ol' tux and take the Metro Downtown, our favorite just might be Los Angeles Athletic Club's annual Rivals in the Ring collegiate boxing invitational.

Toe-to-toe, stick and move, palooka—that was about the extent of our boxing knowledge thanks to a quick Google search for "cool boxing slang." So fine, we're gonna level with you, we're pretty new to boxing...but we kind of love it now. Bearing witness to nine bone-tingling bouts between gifted collegiate contenders really opened something up in us. Before we knew it we were yelling "Flatten him out, Vlad!" right along with the evening gown-clad groupies sitting next to us. And when UCLA went head-to-head with USC, well, let's just say we lost our shit.

Pound-for-pound, this is one of the most fun nights we've had all year and absolutely an event that should be on your radar. And honest to God, when we saw the post-barnburner dessert spread, we almost feinted.
