Transport your taste buds to Basque country with dinner at Redondo Beach's beloved waterfront restaurant, A Basq Kitchen. Co-owner and chef Bernard Ibarra (also executive chef at Terranea Resort) prepares a tantalizing menu inspired by the popular pintxo bars of San Sebastián. Bask in the scenic view of the Redondo Beach harbor while enjoying pintxos, tapas and fine wine at the casual, airy eatery. On the menu: potatoes bravas, ceviche, flan and more traditional dishes that will all have you wanting more.

Captain Kidd's Fish Market and Restaurant

Part fish market and part restaurant, this casual Redondo Beach seafood spot manages to combine fresh fish and an oceanfront setting without breaking the bank. Granted, there's a parking lot between the restaurant and the open ocean, but the enclosed back patio is still a great place to crack open a crab leg. Start out with crispy-fried, butterflied shrimp and creamy, buttery lobster bisque; you can't go wrong with the fresh fish, in particular the tender swordfish and the flavorful smoked salmon.

If you're looking to pair your ocean view with a plate of freshly caught Dungeness crab, head to Redondo Beach Crab House. The shellfish market and Korean seafood restaurant has served hungry South Bay denizens since 1987. Located on the Redondo Pier, the casual, family-friendly eatery is the perfect spot for tasty food and drink after a day well spent on the harbor. Sure, you can order up classics like fresh lobster, oysters, clam chowder or fried seafood, but we highly recommend the house's Korean specialties like spicy pan fried octopus with noodles.

The lunch hour crowd flocks to Jus’ Poke’s glistening, fish-lined deli case as if marinated poke is a vital nutrient to carry out the workday (it very well could be). You’ll want to come hungry. Score generous portions of original (traditional marinade), spicy, shoyu, wasabi or California roll poke (cucumber, tobiko, avocado and imitation crab) with rice and a side for $8 (regular) or $14 (large). But more than the perfect combination of buttery fish and crunchy onion, the translucent deli case is home to equally palatable sides included with each bowl. Choose from spicy edamame, seaweed salad, pickled cucumbers, Hawaiian chips and more for the ultimate complementary bite to your fishing expedition. Seal the mouthwatering deal with a classic scoop of coconut pineapple or green tea ice cream.

Have a hankering for flavor-packed tacos and a margarita? Redondo Beach's favorite go-to Mexican restaurant, Ortega 120, dishes out traditional fare like tacos, enchiladas and burritos with a modern twist. Think steak frite tacos (marinated skirt steak, roasted jalapeno chimichurri, and thinly cut fries in a taco), hand-rolled taquitos topped with avocado salsa and pickled red onions, fried calamari with a chile chipotle sauce, and pomegrante and ginger margaritas. Is your mouth watering yet? The flavorful menu combined with a lively, highly decorative atmosphere makes this the perfect hot spot for a dinner out on the town or a special occasion.

If you're in the mood for authentic chicken tikka masala, samosas and vindaloo, you're in luck. Redondo Beach is home to one of the best Indian restaurants in the South Bay, specializing in cuisine from the region's western coast, Goa. The strip-mall location doesn't exactly scream fine dining, but you'll be pleasantly surprised with what's in store. Besides, some of the best food in L.A. comes from hidden, hole-in-the-wall gems. Satiate your cravings with fresh-baked garlic naan, lamb korma, and the unbeatable chicken tikka masala dinner, which comes heaped with aromatic jasmine rice and lentils.

Bettolino Kitchen
Bettolino Kitchen

Bettolino Kitchen brings Italian hospitality and a stellar modern Italian menu to Riviera Village. While starters and main dishes like eggplant parmesan or grilled salmon are fine choices, the real all-stars on the menu are the handmade pasta dishes, which is no surprise given that Bettolino Kitchen hosts private pasta-making workshops throughout the week. Selections include lobster-stuffed pasta with creamy red bell pepper sauce, pork ragu lasagna, and a classic frutti di mare (squid ink taglioni with fresh seafood and pancetta).

This casual, quick neighborhood spot turns up the heat on classic Hainan boiled chicken with rice, adding Thai street-style spicy garlic sauce and a few other menu goods (hello, dumplings, and herbal Thai soup). You can even get your Hainan chicken fried. Just be careful, because when we say "heat," we mean it—that garlic sauce will keep your mouth burning until you can quench it with a cup of their house-made Thai tea.

All-day modern neighborhood eatery Suburbia reinvents your favorite home meals and gives them a globally-inspired, upscale twist. The restaurant comes from chef Tin Vuong and partner Jed Sanford of Blackhouse Hospitality, who also brought Asian-fusion bistro Little Sister to the South Bay (Manhattan Beach, to be exact). Whether you're in the mood for fried chicken, Spanish-style tapas, poke or Mexican street corn, Suburbia's wide-ranging menu has you covered.

Beer lovers, this one's for you. Nothing quite pairs better with your walk along King Harbor than a cold beer at Redondo Beach's local hangout. The dockside joint offers a prime view of the harbor, along with an expansive draft beer selection to quench your thirst. And don't worry sports fans, there's plenty of flat-screen TVs showing the game. But best of all, the local bar is loaded with character—upside down draft beer taps add a decorative touch to the ceiling, while beach memorabilia and old beer signs cover the walls. It's everything you'd expect from a no-frills, harbor bar where you can come in with your flip flops and board shorts, order up an IPA, and watch the game.

If you're walking along the Redondo Pier and you happen to come across an illuminated mermaid sign wrapped around a downward arrow, it's not just there for decoration. The sign actually points down—aka underground—to The Boogie, a lively cocktail bar for great drinks and live music. Bonus: There's also karaoke. Drop in to catch a live band take the stage, while you sip on one of The Boogie's signature cocktail drinks. Check out the bar's online event calendar to find out who's performing (we highly recommend reggae nights).

If that isn't enough to get your pulse racing (and you tippling), kick off your weekend with a buzz when the bar opens at 11am and stays open late until 2am.

Located on Fisherman's Wharf, Redondo Beach's livley Starboard Attitude bar is known as the oldest live blues club in the South Bay. Head to the happening bar for a drink by the water, karaoke nights, or live music, from blues to rock n' roll. If you're not into belting out your favorite jams on the microphone, you might as well sit back and enjoy the show—it's sure to be entertaining. Karaoke nights take place on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 8pm to midnight, and Sunday from 2pm to 10pm.
