Hotel Figueroa's brand-new flagship eatery is Sparrow, a stunningly good coastal Italian restaurant with a view of the historic hotel’s coffin-shaped pool. Wow might be the only word to sum up a visit here, when each beautifully garnished dinner cocktail arrives with eye-catching flourishes and essentially every Southern Italian dish is well-made in its own right. Standouts include a briny, vegetarian-friendly puttanesca (a rarity on the city’s Italian menus), a decadent A5 Wagyu beef and truffle carpaccio, and a crispy, perfectly sauced chicken parm.
Time Out tip: For drinks, order the Abruzzo, which comes with its own cloud of thyme-scented liquid nitrogen or for something sweeter, order the bruleé-topped espresso martini come time for dessert.
