Phillip Frankland Lee's 17-course sushi speakeasy is worth seeking out. Simply enter Woodley Proper, where you'll be led to a 1930s-Japan-inspired room and you'll be able to try some of Lee's creative takes on nigiri and the sushi-bar experience: sweet-corn-brushed yellowtail; yam with salmon roe and mushroom dashi; sushi rice topped with roasted bone marrow. At $110 per person, this is one of L.A.'s more affordable omakase experiences—and leaves some change in your pocket for the optional cocktail pairings, which are not to be missed.
