This popular Taiwanese chain now has two outposts in San Gabriel and Rowland Heights—the former being the Taichung-based boba shop's first foray into the United States. Expect long lines, especially on the weekends, for these delicious tea-based iced drinks: Each one is freshly brewed to order and can take up to 40 minutes to make during busy periods. While Chicha San Chen offers everything from fruit-flavored teas to mousse-topped teas (a.k.a. cheese foam), the chain is best known for its cassia black tea topped with mousse and the high mountain pouchong—a type of high-quality oolong tea. A newer location is expected to open in Alhambra soon, which might help absorb some of the demand for these delicate, flavorful drinks.
