There’s shawarma and then there’s Avi Cue, a gift of a pop-up bestowed upon Los Angeles whenever pitmaster and chef Avi Yalin graces us with that rare taste of mouth-watering fresh pitas stuffed with slow-roasted meats.
Thankfully the app-based food club Off The Menu is hosting an Avi Cue appearance on Monday, February 22, when Yalin will take over the scenic Hollywood restaurant Yamashiro for a night of his signature wagyu shawarma. Each packed pita gets topped with tomato, onion, parsley, tahini and amba, and you can snag them to-go or enjoy on Yamashiro’s patio. Pita fiends, take note: Each Avi Cue shawarma runs $15, and there’s a limit of two orders per guest.
If you’re a new member of Off The Menu Club, you’ll be entitled to a complimentary shawarma and either a bottle of Stella Artois or a Beam Suntory cocktail—if you’re 21 or older. You’ll need to use the code “aviq” when you register and show the Off the Menu app when you grab your food to get the discount. Otherwise, feel free to just order a la carte. Time slots are likely to go fast, so stake your shawarma spot online before showing up.
