We’ve got super-exciting news: H&H Bagels, one of the most famous bagel shops in NYC, is gearing up to open a storefront in Santa Monica at 710 Montana Avenue as part of a national franchise rollout that will include location debuts in Washington, D.C., Chicago and Boca Raton, FL, among others.
Toddrickallen reports that construction at the venue has begun and the company’s official website already lists the L.A. address, specifically noting it will open in 2024.
As New Yorkers are wont to point out any chance they get, local bagels are likely rendered special by the use of ingredients that are indigenous to their own town. It should come as no surprise, then, that the treats served in Santa Monica will actually be shipped from a production facility in Queens. According to Eater, the company recently opened a 20,000-square-foot bakery that has the capacity to produce 9,000 bagels an hour.
“At the new locations, bagels will be kettle-boiled and parbaked, then frozen and shipped to stores, where they’ll be finished in special ovens,” reports the outlet. That sounds very intense, very New York and very… exciting? (If, like us, being able to taste bagels from the other side of the country is the kind of thing that excites you.)
The news follows the opening of another popular East Coast joint earlier this summer: Bagel Boss, which debuted its first L.A.-area store at 3116 West Magnolia Boulevard in Burbank back in June.
Will either shop eventually land our list of the best bagels in Los Angeles? The verdict is still out, but stay tuned.
