Just a few months after being named one of the best pizzerias in the U.S., L.A.’s very own Pizzeria Sei (our personal pick for the best pizza spot in the city) landed on a similar global ranking: 50 Top Pizza’s list of top joints in the world.
On this farther-reaching edition of the ranking, the home of the city’s first Tokyo-style pizza omakase made it to number 33 (it was in position number 8 on the U.S.-only list).
“Since opening in 2022, Pizzeria Sei has continued to impress with its unique Tokyo-Neapolitan style pizzas,” reads the official survey. “The atmosphere is calm and serene, while the pizza makers work the dough, giving the pizza crust a quality of chewiness and crispiness like a whip crack.”
The outlet also gives kudos to the dough prepared by chef William Joo, who co-owns the eatery with wife Jennifer So, specifically addressing the ingredient’s constant evolution.
“Today’s pizza is flavorful in every sense, especially thanks to the ‘salt-punch,’ a Tokyo technique where the chef throws a handful of salt into the oven and then lays the uncooked dough on top,” reports the survey.
Also worthy of mention is the parlor’s omakase pizza option: an 8-to-10-course tasting menu offered every other week featuring different dough styles and flavors.
