There’s a lot to be thankful for and thoughtful about during Hanukkah, but let’s be real: a celebration of fried foods—we’re looking at you, latkes—is one everyone can get behind.
This year, feast on these specials and events for a geshmak festival.
The Fat Sal’s x Yeastie Boys x Fleishik’s x The Fat Jewish Sandwich
There are collaborations and then there are legends. This insane, piled-high monster of Hanukkah flavor—17-hour-smoked brisket plus apple sour cream cheese, latkes, chicken liver mousse, IPA-brined pastrami, sliced green apples and gribenes all between a mozzarella-and-onion bialy—is brought to us by some of L.A.’s baddest kochleffels. Eric Greenspan’s modern Jewish deli Fleishik’s, the sandwich madmen at Fat Sal’s Deli and the irreverent dough boys behind the Yeastie Boys food truck all named their creation after Instagram celebrity-turned-entrepreneur the Fat Jewish. Sadly you won’t be able to find this stack for a full eight days and nights; it’s only available this Saturday and Sunday—December 16 and 17—and you can only find it at the Hollywood location of Fat Sal’s, in-store only. $11.99.
Cofax’s Latke Party
Next Tuesday, December 19, Cofax Coffee gets lit with the holiday spirit—and maybe also a menorah—as it throws “a genuine Jew x Goy collab” from 6 to 8pm. Stop by for some of L.A.’s finest pastrami—courtesy of Ugly Drum—as well as sufganiyot (jelly doughnuts) by baker extraordinaire Nicole Rucker, loaded latkes, matzoh ball soup and gravlax, all available à la carte. Wash it all down with some Hoxie Spritzer, a co-host of the party and a maker of canned dry-wine spritzers.
The Wexler’s Deli Hanukkah Menu
Bring the feast to you with a massive meal including not only brisket but latkes with crème fraîche and apple sauce; roasted carrots with honey and rosemary; matzoh ball soup; and an apple and goat cheese salad with apple cider vinegar. Feed a fam of 10 to 12 for $375 by emailing catering@wexlersdeli.com or calling (424) 744-8671—now through December 20—available via delivery or pickup from the Santa Monica location. You can even add an entire loaf of chocolate babka for $32. (No one can turn down chocolate babka.)
