The three things you need to know today in Los Angeles: Wed, Dec 6

1. Sip on a free hot toddy at a 1,300-pound gingerbread bar during a tasting event at the JW Marriott at L.A. Live. The Downtown hotel's lobby bar is offering an hour of hot toddy tastings starting at 7pm.

2. Trek out to Orange County for the annual Placentia Tamale Festival. This year, the free fest, which runs from 4 to 9:30pm in Old Town Placentia, also features all-you-can-eat tamales and all-you-can-drink beer and wine for $49.

3. Listen to a Q and A with director Alexander Payne and watch a screening of Downsizing as part of the The Contenders, a screening series of awards-caliber films. Tickets to the 7:30pm event at the Hammer Museum cost $20.
