1. Go fly a kite—or help launch a 25-foot-wide communal one—at the Festival of the Kite, a high-flying tradition held adjacent to the Redondo Beach Pier from noon to 5pm.
2. Swing by the UCLA campus for a Nowruz Celebration (Iranian New Year, and the arrival of spring) and a free afternoon of music, dancing and Persian-inspired cuisine from noon to 5pm.
3. Treat yourself to a ticket to Cochon555. The annual competition at the Viceroy pits five chefs against each other as they each prepare upwards of six dishes from a whole hog. Tickets to the 4pm dinner cost $130.
