Is L.A. still one of the most expensive, inconvenient cities? We want to find out.

It’s time to take the Time Out Index again—and last year Angelenos had some pretty strong opinions.

Oh, L.A. What happened?

As part of our annual Time Out Index, a survey of thousands of city-dwellers around the globe, L.A. was named the fifth best city in the world in 2019. But after last year’s survey, L.A. now has a much more dubious distinction: the most expensive, inconvenient, overrated city in North America.

So where do things stand in 2022? Has the revival of the restaurant and bar scene breathed some much-needed life into L.A.? Or has the cost of just about everything (we see you, $7 gas) kept you from fully embracing L.A. again? We want to know as part of this year’s Time Out Index.

We’re once again turning to our readers to find out what they love the most about their cities. How easy is it to date? To make friends? What’s the coolest part of town? And how do you feel now that you can do stuff again—which is why we’re here, after all. And now we want to know what’s keeping you here, too.

The survey only takes five minutes, and at the end we’ll tell you exactly how much you love your city. As ever, we’ll be using all your responses to come up with our annual rankings of the world’s best cities and coolest neighborhoods. So go ahead, do L.A. some justice—and take part in the ultimate stock take of city living in 2022.

Ready to tell us your opinions? Take the Time Out Index survey and be brutally honest with us, whether you want to show your love for L.A.’s hidden gems or rant about the commute to Santa Monica.
