It hasn’t been a full two months since Ari Taymor closed Alma for good, but he’s already back in action with his next concept—and he’s got even more up his sleeves.
Alma’s lauded tasting-menu restaurant gave way to a modern-diner menu when it took up residency in the Standard Hollywood, where you’d find some creative spins on classic breakfast, brunch and late-night dishes and daily doughnuts. Starting this Saturday, he’s bringing back a few of those items—plus new plates and a handful of cocktails and wines—at his new Santa Monica brunch pop-up, Little Prince.
Cropping up in the former 2424 Main Street spot, this Saturday-and-Sunday affair will offer seats in a cozy space between 9am and 4pm, serving the likes of green pea pancakes with market greens and herbs; eggs baked in the wood oven with spring alliums, labna, merguez and flatbread; smoked salmon hash with seaweed hollandaise (you’ll want an extra side of that seaweed hollandaise), crispy potatoes and a slow-cooked yolk; and the return of his patty melt with aged cheddar, pickles, brown-butter béarnaise and arugula.
“Right now we are looking at it as temporary, however there is certainly the potential it could become permanent,” Taymor says. At the very least, find him slinging brunch here for the next month or two, and keep an eye out for a few forthcoming, developing concepts from the team.
Natural wines, plus cocktails by general manager Steve LaFountain—whom you may recognize from Alma—round out the brunch options, because what goes better with eggs than rosé just blocks from the beach?
