The Flaming Lips fans lined up around the block last Friday for what turned out to be Warner Brothers Records' most successful Summer Session this season. Lunch, cupcakes, boozy cocktails and beers were served as the crowd anxiously awaited the band's arrival. Finally, Wayne Coyne—with an aqua-dyed beard and bangs, a bedazzled face and painted nails—and the rest of the laid-back, floppy-haired band took the stage. They performed hits chronologically from "the beginning," as Coyne put it, starting with 1984's "Bag Full of Thoughts" and progressing all the way up to 2013's "The Terror." Amiably, the band ended on "Do You Realize??", the song everyone had been (is always?) waiting for. The sun was shining, the booze was flowing and Coyne radiated the graciousness and joie de vivre he's known for.
