Named after a tropical disease carried by mosquitoes, this excellent L.A.-based band features a bunch of indie vets playing in the style of ’60s Cambodian rock—with songs, oftentimes sung in Khmer, that have been featured in several films. More spooky than kitschy, the group's crowning moment was finding singer Chhom Nimol—a native of Phnom Penh who performed for the king and queen of Cambodia before moving to California—who sings in an intense, captivating quaver.
