Forget the amateur guitarists fumbling their way through "Smoke on the Water"—Deep Purple churned out some sensational proto-metal tracks in its early years that mined as much from classical music as they did psychedelia. Alice Cooper, meanwhile, channeled end-of-semester energy into a carnival-like stage show. The two '70s icons are hitting the road together, with a stop at the Greek Theatre. For Deep Purple, it marks a stop on the band's open-ended farewell tour in anticipation of its next studio album, Infinite. And for Alice Cooper, just another round of shock rock theatrics. The Edgar Winter Band opens.
