BRMC can get a little too swept up in their leather-and-denim, Kerouac-and-Dean Americana. The promotion videos for its latest, Specter at the Feast, are nearly identical to those poetic Levi's ads. But the black-clad band has emotional weight, dedicating the record to guitarist-vocalist Robert Levon Been's father, BRMC's sound engineer, who passed away while working for his son's group. There's a cover of the elder Been's "Let the Day Begin," which storms atop the pummelling toms of Leah Shapiro, next to Jack White backer Carla Azar in the pantheon of ass-kicking female drummers.
