The forthcoming Lucas Museum has acquired the Separate Cinema Archive, which includes posters, film stills, scripts and a massive reference library of African-American cinema since 1904. To celebrate, the museum is teaming up with LACMA (to tie in to its excellent Betye Saar exhibition) to present a pair of movie screenings at the Cinemark Theater in Baldwin Hills on February 8. The day kicks off with a morning matinee of The Wiz as well as the pop-up Melanin Market L.A., and continues in the evening with Do the Right Thing, followed by a discussion with University of Chicago professor Jacqueline Stewart and Lucas Museum film curator Ryan Linkof.
