Drive-in movie theaters are having a moment right now, but in L.A. they never really went away. That doesn’t mean we won’t make room for one more drive-in, though.
Drive-In Movie Club will pop up in L.A. starting this July. News of the series actually first surfaced a few months ago when drive-ins weren’t the only way we were able to watch movies outside of our homes. But since then, the series—which comes from the team behind the UK’s Hot Tub Cinema—has recommitted to bringing a social-distancing–friendly drive-in to L.A.
We’ll be honest: There are a lot of things we don’t know yet about the series, including the schedule and location (we’re told “as close to the city center as possible,” which, uh, could be anywhere in L.A.’s decentralized cityscape). But that info has been released for other cities, where it costs $30 to $40 per car (up to five people), and an extra $20 for a popcorn, drink and candy add-on to see movies like Bohemian Rhapsody, Deadpool, The Greatest Showman and Fight Club.
In L.A., tickets will cost $30 ($25 for early bird), and through they aren’t on sale yet, you can pre-register to be notified when they are.
