Time Out says

Steps from sports, music and nightlife, the Sheraton Grand offers practical amenities in luxe accommodations for guests traveling for business or pleasure.

A sleek, glass-paneled building in Downtown’s historic Financial District, the Sheraton Grand offers an upscale take on standard chain hotel fair. The rooms themselves are posh but unfussy, sporting satellite TVs, coffee and tea service and the hotel’s exclusively designed pillow-top Sheraton Signature Beds. It’s a chain hotel, albeit a classy one, so what the Sheraton Grand may lack in pizazz, it makes up for in reliability. The modern minimalist lobby is spacious and well-appointed with plush seating areas, a gift shop and a cafe (for those seeking the comforts of home, the latter boasts a full Starbucks menu.) Business travelers will be keen to take advantage of the downstairs Link lounge, which offers complimentary computer and printer use for on-the- go assignments. The Sheraton’s proximity to the Staples Center, L.A. Live and the Los Angeles Convention Center make the hotel as convenient as it is comfortable to tourists, concert-goers and convention attendees, as well.

Location: Arguably the most New York neighborhood in California, L.A.’s Financial District is a bustle of 9-5ers from the surrounding skyscrapers. It’s also supremely walkable, offering access to shops, bars and museums, as well as a recently revamped metro.

Nearby:

California Flower Mart: The heart of the nearby Flower District is 45,000 square feet of fresh cut flowers. While the Mall is technically a wholesale marketplace, admission is free for all visitors, and a dizzying array of divinely scented flora, elaborately crafted party arrangements and friendly resident cats make for an ideal morning for kids and adults alike.

Clifton’s Republic: The multi-story restaurant is home to several distinctly themed bars (think Old Hollywood, Tiki and more), countless taxidermy wildlife displays and the best Jell-O in the city.

71Above: Phenomenal views accompany prix-fixe contemporary American fare at this bank tower-turned- restaurant. Start with a cocktail in the Skylounge, then snag a table in the dining room for dishes like milk-poached young chicken and oysters with uni and caviar.

The Broad: Don’t trust anyone who says L.A. doesn’t have culture. Take in work from contemporary favorites like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Jenny Holzer in an impeccably designed space. (Tip: admission is free, but the lines can be daunting; get tickets in advance.)

Grand Central Market: This European-style food hall truly has something for everyone: from Thai to oysters to Mexican candy, the fare is reasonably priced and consistently top-notch.

Amenities: Minibar, restaurant, bar, gym, laundry service, shop, concierge, business center

Good for: The in-suite work desks and a 24-hour business center make the Sheraton Grand ideal for overseas business travelers, though the shops and location will appeal to tourists of all stripes.

Time Out tip: When booking a room, aim high: the 24-story building’s uppermost floors offer unparalleled views of the city.
