Once a luxury inn and later a Skid Row-esque slum, the decidedly un-ritzy Ritz was overhauled in 2003 and now rather optimistically sells itself as a low-budget 'boutique'. The hotel's 135 rooms are safe, but they're small and won't win any design awards. The hotel's main selling point is the location: the hotel is within a few blocks of LA Live and the convention centre, in one of Downtown's safer pockets. The restaurant next door serves brunch and lunch.
